Spiritual ContactIn recent years, films based on real world events and true stories have become something of a go-to theme for films that has been well and truly embraced by film-makers and audiences alike, what with Paranormal Activity forgoing integrity; becoming a cash cow of massive proportions. It makes sense then that the first film from young Brazilian writer, director and Editor Emerson Pinheiro is a paranormal tale based on events that happened to an 11-year old boy, during 1995 in Brazil. The film is titled Spiritual Contact, as opposed to contact from alien life, the genre of the supernatural is explored, and a rare and much needed exploration into the ways the other side contacts and affects us.In 2011 Pinhiero, whom has previously been behind the camera in short-films, created his production company Atalia Films with a devotion to making films based on true experiences, giving people who have endured the usually clandestine and personal events a voice, as a method of getting messages across to audiences worldwide.Due to good and considerate writing, Spiritual Contact has been localised to England and names have been changed to protect all involved. Pinheiro has created a believable array of characters that audiences can relate to thanks to the typical English settings and dialects, something regularly unattainable in Hollywood films where narratives of this nature are usually set.The film follows the tale of Jeremiah who on his 11th birthday unknowingly received a gift (or should that be burden) granting him the ability to see into the parallel world of the supernatural and paranormal. As a way of both dealing with his gift and fighting the malevolent forces that be he seeks spiritual help.Atalaia Films have created a brilliant film that explores themes and presents questions we dare ask ourselves as adults with diverse crew and talent. Their mission goal; to create and explore films based on the true life experiences of people is a breath of fresh air as it is an auspicious task, one that should not be taken lightly, let’s hope that they make a name for themselves as they deserve to with such hard work and determination. As of June 2012, Atalaia Films has grown to encompass a diverse crew and established talent, the follow-up to Spiritual Contact is now in post-production.Written by Jonathan Kirby.

Young actor is a rising stareditorial imageby MIKE HALLOWELLPublished on the28June 2012 14:45Print thisLast week I interviewed film director Emerson Pinheiro about his latest movie Spiritual Contact. The film details the real-life encounters of a young boy with what many would call dark spiritual influences, and his struggle to cope with a “gift” which in some ways made things worse. The focus of the movie is Jeremiah, played by young actor Adam Wilson. Adam is certainly one to watch; TV and more movies beckon, and I’m unashamedly looking forward to the day when I can point to him on screen and say: “I interviewed him when he was a nipper.”Adam, I have to say, is every bit as intriguing as Jeremiah. He cares not one whit for the distractions that fascinate most youngsters – “I’m not into Facebook at all, I prefer to write letters” – and one of his main passions is a love for table tennis, which he inherited from his father, Colin.More, he’s home-schooled by his parents which provides a welcome degree of flexibility when it comes to fitting in his acting career with his education. He also has a fascination with architectural design. That’s an interesting mixture. But perhaps the most intriguing facet of Adam Wilson is his spiritual beliefs, for Adam, along with the rest of his family, is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This is something which, his mum Kim told me, he takes very seriously indeed. And he does: “When I’m studying a character I like to portray the person perfectly, but it was odd playing Jeremiah at first.“Jeremiah is a Protestant, and here am I a Latter-Day Saint ... but as an actor you have to get past things like that.“By the time we got halfway through filming, I had a much greater appreciation of what Jeremiah had gone through.”Acting doesn’t run in Adam’s family, so where did his enthusiasm and talent come from? His mother Kim recalls that as a youngster his favourite TV show was MacGyver, and he once told her, “When I’m older I want to do a show like MacGyver, but the secret agent would be a child”.Well, he didn’t get to play a young MacGyver, but he did get the part of the Mayor in a schoolproduction of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The acting bug bit him, and he’s never looked back.Following in the footsteps of Amy Adams, John Heder, Corbyn Allred, Dan Blocker and Dean Jagger – all Latter-Day Saints – Adam Wilson looks set to make his mark in the world of entertainment.Being a Latter-Day Saint may prove to be a big advantage.Whatever one may think of LDS doctrines, Adam’s church places great emphasis on family stability and moral rectitude. For that reason he’s likely to be insulated from the crash-and-burn destiny that has done in so many other child actors. He has a loving family, a stable home life and, wherever it came from, a burgeoning talent.Adam Wilson is only 12, and is in so many respects light years away from the troubled young Jeremiah, who found himself quite literally staring the forces of evil in the face.“It was a challenging role,” he told me, “but I’d like to think I played it successfully. I’m looking to the future now, but just one step at a time.”There’s little danger of Adam becoming typecast – Spiritual Contact will undoubtedly be a springboard to new and challenging projects. For now, though, he’s determined to keep his feet firmly on the ground.A good strategy, methinks. Jeremiah is an adult now and no longer troubled. In career terms I don’t think young Adam has anything to worry about either...

Child star from ‘Mr Selfridge’ to star in British feature film ‘Spiritual ContactLondon, UK – January, 27th 2013 – Adam Wilson is a 12 year old boy and like all 12 years olds he likes to play games and have fun. But this particular 12 year old is extraordinarily driven to become a film star. Adam made his small screen debut last Sunday in the first episode of ITV’s new period drama ‘Mr Selfridge’. But playing the Son of Jeremy Pivens’ lead character isn’t all he’s been up to recently. He will be starring in a new British feature film called Spiritual Contact, playing the lead character in a story about a boy who discovers his gift of seeing spirits and his struggle to overcome this. The premiere of Spiritual Contact will take place on the 27th January 2013 at the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley, with a first come, first serve one-off screening for the public taking place at 11.30am that day. Adam and the rest of the cast and crew will be attending to answer questions, take photographs and talk about the movie. The movie is an independently produced (True Story!) feature film from Atalaia Films. It see’s a directorial debut for it’s director working with a large international crew. The director, Emerson Pinheiro said of his leading character “Adam was amazing to work with, his ability to find the character and his portrayal of the character is what got him the job. I’m sure he’ll go far!” That’s not to say that he is not a normal mischievous boy “on this set, I wouldn’t say that necessarily I have been bad!” said Adam in one post film interview before explaining how the director would keep him focused “But Emerson is very good, very comforting in a way, I kinda like that” Even Director of Photography, Dave Moyle was impressed “He’s a good kid, you know.” he said “he is a normal boy who likes to have fun, but when you tell him to get into character, he just does, in a second!”The film is set to be released in the UK this summer, with an advanced screening in Finchley this month and a chance to meet and greet the cast and crew. But something tells me that Adam won’t have to wait until the summer for his next big job!
ATALAIA FILMS was founded in February 2011 by Emerson Pinheiro with the intention of making films based on true stories. The first project that was written by Emerson was Spiritual Contact. This movie is based in Emerson’s auto biography that happened to him when he was at the age of 11 years in Brazil in 1995. It brings a message about the Spiritual World and how this 11 year old (JEREMIAH) was able to break down the barriers of the human world and the spiritual world. In order to protect the identities of the family involved it has been written in English and shot in London, but all facts remain the same. Atalaia Films now has a diverse crew with an array of talent. Spiritual Contact is now completed and writing has begun for the next project!.
